When it comes to the holidays, all Mandy Moore wants to do is “hunker down and spend time with family and friends, and make some new memories.” And with two young kids and a new baby, she also wants to “capture the moment,” so personalized gifts are a must-have. Which is why her recent work with Shutterfly is “the perfect partnership at the perfect time.”
Because Shutterfly not only makes it easy to design, customize, and send out holiday cards, ornaments, and more, they also give you tons of options so that everyone gets the perfect gift to fit their aesthetic. So Mandy walked us through her favorite gifts to give and receive, plus her go-to stocking stuffers for significant others, moms, and mother-in-laws.
From calendars to photo books to fleece blankets, these are Mandy Moore’s gift hacks for the upcoming holiday season.
E!: Do you have any holiday traditions?
MM: "One of my favorite holiday traditions is being able to send and receive holiday cards. I love it. I love being able to catch up with friends and family and people that we haven't necessarily been able to see over the course of the year, and see what they're up to. I save all of my holiday cards each year."
E!: What's the vibe of your holiday card?
MM: "I'm a big fan of the candid photo -- like you see the picture and it makes you smile, maybe not everybody's looking at the camera. Maybe someone's doing something slightly goofy that we're all laughing at. [...] I hope that the picture just captures this essence of this very particular and special moment that we're living in right now."
If you're looking to start a tradition like Mandy, then Shutterfly has got you covered with tons of holiday card options. Or you could just go with Mandy's pick here -- you can choose the trim, card stock, and even add a personalized greeting on the back.
Mandy reports, "We love sending personalized calendars off to our family, too. It's such an easy, no brainer gift, and we're able to put in our anniversary and my parents, my dad and my stepmom's anniversary and all the kids' birthdays. It's so much fun."
"I also love making ornaments, selfishly, to have as keepsakes, but then to be able to send to family and friends. And so I love that Shutterfly has an easy way for us to do that. That's something that I love receiving, and my family really looks forward to each year, especially now that kids are in the picture."
For herself, Mandy Moore likes to self-gift photo books. She takes all the photos from her phone and "even if you don't have the time to create your own, Shutterfly has this 24-hour designer service. They will design the photo book for you free of charge, and send it back to you. So I'm definitely going to be using that this holiday season. I'm very excited about that gift hack."
Mandy says, "Anything personalized goes a long way with me." And she also loves gifting something that someone will use every day, so this ceramic mug is perfect. Add up to 9 photos.
When it comes to gifting, Mandy recommends "something that I use on the daily," which is a travel tumbler. This option allows you to add a personalized message and two photos, and it fits in most cup holders.
"I'm a big blanket fan, anything that's cozy," Mandy reports. "You can download your pets and your kids and stuff like that."
Whether you're buying a holiday gift or a host gift, Mandy loves personalized stationery. "I did that for the holidays one year, and it was really big. I got it for my sister-in-law, for my mother-in-law, and it's just not something that you typically think of to get for yourself."
E!: As a mom of three, what would you gift a new mom that maybe they wouldn't necessarily think about?
MM: "I would gift them a gift certificate. You tell me when you need to tap out and get a massage or get your hair done, and I will come and watch your baby and do some laundry or cook a meal for you. I know that sounds silly, but offering yourself to be of service and support like that, I think, goes the longest way. Because we all can buy the things that we need and look online, on Instagram and social media, and see all the different gadgets and things that we think we need. But truly being of service and support goes the longest way."
Mandy Moore's Stocking Stuffer Go-Tos
"I feel like, with stocking stuffers, they should be things that you generally use every day." So Mandy always puts a pair of socks in her husband's stocking.
A beautiful phone case, Mandy believes, "is always nice. And obviously, with a company like Shutterfly, you can personalize those. You can put pictures on them and that sort of stuff, which I think is a really neat idea. And again, not something you necessarily think of for yourself. But hey, we always need a new phone case."
Another Mandy Moore Gift Idea...
"For my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law, my mom, I tend to get them little travel-size bottles of skincare or makeup. Things that I've discovered over the course of the year that I love, that I'm like, I think they would love this too. They look forward to that because they're not necessarily as hip to all of that stuff, I would say, or as into it."
If you're still shopping on Amazon, you'll love these Oprah Winfrey picks under $50.
