Brittany Snow is detailing a hardship she’s previously kept private.
The Pitch Perfect star recently shared that her father, John Snow, has been battling Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years, and opened up on how it has affected their close relationship.
“I’ve never shared this before, but I feel compelled to now,” Brittany said on the Aug. 12 episode of Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen. “My dad has been dealing with Alzheimer’s for a really long time.”
As she and the duo discussed their need for physical closeness and a feeling of “home” in their loved ones—particularly male guardians in their lives—Brittany noted that while she and her father were once the “closest” in their family, it doesn’t feel that way anymore due to his illness.
“To the point where there is no physical touch in that way,” the John Tucker Must Die alum added. “There is no home in that way.”
But while she described the hardship, the 38-year-old clarified that she’s thankful to have this time with her dad at all—no matter how it has changed their relationship.
“The gift of grieving it in a slow process has been really beautiful,” she continued. “I get to realize what I love about him and appreciate each thing about these tiny little moments that then get lost. Although it’s quite sad, it’s so much better of a gift than it happening suddenly.”
The X actress also detailed how having a loved one with Alzheimer's has allowed her to connect with people going through similar experiences.
“There are so many people who have gone through this and it’s a baffling disease to witness,” she said. “I think it’s really, really interesting and beautiful to get to see someone who is still there, but just a different version of themselves.”
Even so, Brittany—who finalized her divorce from ex Tyler Stanaland in July 2023 after a five-year relationship—also acknowledged that she is still coming to terms with the loss throughout her everyday life.
“There’s that need for that man-sort of safety because I don’t have that anymore,” she explained. “Trying to still find that within myself and find it through friendships and work relationships and not putting it on a partner either, but still navigating that I still deserve and want a partner. You can make that person your home.”
